Minimalism Project Two: Movies

This one wasn’t that hard for me, but I know it will be hard for a lot of people. So. A few things to remember before you get started:

  • Many local libraries allow you to check out movies. For. Free.
  • Netflix is a thing
  • So are digital copies.

So there is a quick way to do this, and a 6 month long way to do this.

Quick way:

Would you replace this movie if it was damaged or lost? No? Toss it. (Or donate. Or sell. whatever works for you)

Pretty easy right?

For me I just thought “If Jude broke this, would I replace it?”

6 Month Project:

If you are having a hard time getting rid of movies, this method might be easier for you. Set a reminder on your phone for a date about 6 months from now. Then, every time you watch a movie, put it away backwards. At the end of 6 months you will have a clear picture of what movies you actually watch and what you should probably get rid of.

We were able to get ourselves down to 50 dvds: 35 of ours and 15 for Jude (This is a lie. We have 15 kids movies. Jude only likes about 5 of them. Shhhhh).

And I can name them all without looking :D

We sold the rest of them to a used book store and used the money to go out to dinner at Chipotle. And we even had enough for guac! :D

*If you do a decluttering project, brag about it in the comments to encourage others to do the same!
